FlashPass 1.0 is out!
Posted on May 5th, 2009 17 commentsV1.0 RELEASED
This is it… Our first full blown gold master release is out. Version 1.0 will be our first non-testing release, and we hope we have done along with your help a good job of killing little nasty bugs. Developement will continue if we find any new bugs, but mostly will continue to bring some cool new features to you, so stay put!
Make sure you download the 1.0 version here, and uninstall all prior versions of FlashPass betas and release candidates. Your database will remain unchanged and untouched. Once you install 1.0 your data will be back and alive. Also make sure you create new desktop shortcuts so that you are actually running version 1.0 and not an older one.
Quick reminder that on May 18th of this year, eApis will become mandatory. It is recommended that you practice some submissions using FlashPass before it actually becomes mandatory.

This appears to be great. However I cannot creat an outbound manifest?
thanks,
Do you have a FAQ?
mbHello Marty,
The way Flash Pass works is by creating an XML file that can later be uploaded directly into the CBP’s website using the UPLOAD section. This is a two step process. First save the XML file to your desktop and then UPLOAD it to CBP’s website.

Francisco:I’m at a friend’s house who’s never had FlashPass. Downloaded V1.0 onto his laptop. Generated a manifest. Worked fine, with the .xml extension. Looks like the problem affects only some computers that had prior version. But be alert, in case others are impacted.

Can I install your program (and the related data files) all on a flashdrive? This way, when I am travelling if I don’t have my laptop with me I can still use the program with a internet capable computer that are often located at airports or otherwise available while travelling. If I happen to have my laptop I can still use the program using the flashdrive. But, I can always carry the flashdrive in my flightbag or in the aircraft and it would be very convenient.
Please advise.
ThanksHello Bill,
Our current version of Flash Pass has to be installed in the computer that you will be using.
When you download and run the Flash Pass installer it copies the program files and creates an icon on the desktop to run it. We are working on a future web version that will allow you to run Flash Pass in any computer connected to the internet via any browser.Thank you for your comment,

Hi I have just had a brief review of your eAPIS program and so far it looks very good. However there are some points that maybe need clarifying. 1. When asked for a ‘State’ in the address field, overseas countries do not use a 2 letter code, but enter the whole name of their district. Maybe this field could be expanded to allow for that. 2. When I select the ‘United Kingdom of ……’ the name is too long to fit into box on the form 178. Can this name be shortened or could word wrap be used?
3. The Operator/ Lessee/Contact people are not crew or passengers. Can these fields be entered in free text and from the Persons database?I look forward to hearing from.
With kind regards,
Mervyn.
Hello Mervyn,
- CBP has detailed guidelines for fields. Currently they require only
2 letters for States. If we submit a State field with more
than 2 letters it will be denied when submitted. I guess they still
have work to do on their end.- Thank you for the TIP of long countries. We will include a wrap
around on the next version.- Operator / Lessee / Emergency Contacts have to be added to the
Persons database so they can be selected from the Manifest as a
pull down. You can leave the non essential fields blank in these
persons.Thank you for your comments,

Tried to set up aircraft, but it would not let me enter the name of the owner and could not continue without entering name; therefore, a failure & had to abort? Please advise
Hello Mario,
The Owner has to be added to the “persons” list. Once it
is there you can proceed to Aircraft and select him from the
pull down list.Thank you for your comment,

How do I change the clock from GMT-4 to GMT -5?Hello Mario,
Flash Pass displays the time according to your computers’s time settings. In your computer go to control panel and adjust the time and regional settings.

Any way we can move the name of the Person up or down in the list so we can group them by family. I found that I entered the name fo the husband, and later, the name of the spouse, which appears six lines down.Hello Mario,
We will try to include those options on our next release of Flash Pass.

I have a problem with the Departure and Arrival times. It is set up wrong. You ask for the Departure time local and the arrival times in local too. As a traaveler I may not know both. I seldom do.
I think you should have a space for “Length of Flight” instead and have the software add that time to the departure time for a Zulu time arrival. THEN if you wish, convert that to local time for me.

I just found your application. I have heard a number of complaints about the eAPIS system and how unfriendly it is. I have filed a few manifests directly in the eAPIS site and it is very time-consuming.I had thought to create an application myself. It seems you have beat me to it! You seem to have all the features I had thought to create except a version that I could use at the FBO without my laptop around (web based?). I know that is your plans. Thanks and good luck with the tool.
Hello Kingsley,
We are working on the Web version of Flash Pass but at this point we do not have a date on a release date.

I was trying to fugure out how to take all my stored infor on FlashPass with me to the Bahamas and use another computer to file my info with eapis. Can I put my infor into a flash drive and acess it from another computer, or can I have you put the program on a flash drive for me , (for a fee of course), and them I can take it from computer to another. The airports in the Bahamas have computers at the FBO’s and could just insert my flashdrive and download my flight plan to eapis.

I am trying to enter my aircraft info in the system..
When reaching the OPERATER OWNER OR LESSEE fields,
the system does not let my enter enything, when I click on these fields I get
a blank pull down, it does not accept any info.
Let me know why.
ArieHello Arie,
Operator and Owner have to be added in the “Persons” section before you can go to the “Aircraft” section.
Once they are added you will be able to select them from the “pull-down” in “Aircraft”.Thank you for your comments,

When I save my manafest to my desktop I get a mesage that windows canont open this file and askes if I want to search the internet to find the corect programHello Kevin,
When you export your manifest to the desktop it is saved as an XML file. There is NO need to double click the file. It has to be uploaded to CBP’s website in order to file it. Please take a look at our online video in: http://www.vimeo.com/3858223

Read your email regarding the new version 1.1. I have the original version 1.0 but when I try to “check for updates” it tells me thare are none. How can I update?
Thank you
Hello Mario,
It seems you might have a firewall blocking the update checking system. To upgrade go to http://www.lobolabs.com and download the latest version to your desktop. Install on top of your current version. Your Flash Pass data will not be afected. Make sure you close Flash Pass before upgrading.
