FlashPass - Release Candidate 0.11

FlashPass 0.10 Expired!

A few had noticed that the beta expired today.

I expected to have ended the beta process by this day, but i was wrong. CBP hasn’t published yet the final document specs that state the exact protocol for the XML file. However i had been in contact with them and i was able to create a very close XML generation and fixed a handfull of other bugs found on the system.

I am going to post 0.11 Later Today, so stand by and bare with me for a moment.

FlashPass Release Candidate (0.10) Available (Windows Version Too)

After much debate and feedback, i had decided to start working on the windows version, and after writing much code again and testing on a Windows XP platform, i think i have something useful for windows too. This new release brings some bug fixes to the mac release, but also brings the first release candidate of the windows platform. I really really hope you enjoy it since it took some extra effort to make it run under windows, its really a messy operating system and it takes some extra work to make a cross compatible (mac and windows) developement. 

Here are the most relevant changes since 0.9 :

* Changed the (cloned) suffix on cloned manifest to english.
* Database BackUp option is not available yet, so we say so when clicking on that option.
* Removed the not so usefull eb message.
* Prepared code for Windows, fixed a couple of compatibility issues in the pulldowns and menu bar
* Fixed the prefs pane rectangle drawing issues.
* Changed printing method for Windows compatibility.

KNOWN ISSUES: (Working Hard to fix them)

* 178 Print out is lower res than older versions due to windows compatibility (will be fixed)
* In Windows the State field does not restrict typing to 2 digits or letters.
* In Mac the welcome screen sometimes takes longer to open than it should.
* Only tested in Windows XP, don’t know about vista compatibility but it should work.

FlashPass Release Candidate (0.9) Available

FlashPass First public beta release

FlashPass is a software that will allow you to keep and store frequently used passenger, aircraft and manifest data, so that you will be able to make quickly and without re-entering a whole lot of data a new XML file for uploading and/or  a 178 customs form for printing.

This development was started because of my frustration with new rule making that makes air travel closed to inconvenient, i decided to take steps to keep the process simple. At first i wasn’t sure if i wanted to share it or distribute it, but then i came to my senses and though “why not”. Because of this FlashPass will be a donation ware released software, which means its free, unless you think its worth something, if that happens you donate some money to continue the development further.

Because CBP hasn’t released the XML business rules document and that there is not an exact example on how to create the XML file, i had decided to release the FlashPass software for public beta, while i can get a hold of this specification.

This will allow me to keep the development going with your feedback and comments.

This software is only available at this time for Mac OSX (universal binary). We are working on our first windows release, but we are using bootcamp for debugging and its a pain, so we are slowly but surely progressing to a release.
